Cerrado Mineiro is a large region in the state of Minas Gerais in southeastern Brazil. According to The Cerrado Coffee Growers Federation, it is made up of 55 counties, 210,000 hectares of coffee farms, and 4,5000 producers. It has an average production of 5 million bags every year – a quarter of Minas Gerais’ output, and 12.7% of Brazil’s.

The region’s farms sit between 800 and 1,300 m.a.s.l., and are predominantly flat. There are well-defined seasons which means cherries typically ripen at the same time.

The coffee is known for its intense aromas, notes of caramel or nuts, gentle citrus acidity, medium to full body, and long-lasting chocolate aftertaste.

It is also the first region in Brazil to receive protected Designation of Origin status, meaning coffee labelled “Cerrado” has to actually come from Cerrado (similar to the rules protecting Spanish ham or Champagne).

Traceability opens the door to better coffee quality and a more equitable value chain. Fazenda Bom Jardim is our producer for this fabulous coffee.

Way before Cerrado Mineiro became known for the quality of its coffee, the Queiroz family was already cultivating coffee in the region. In fact, Roberto’s father was among the first three coffee producers of the Cerrado and for the last 50 years the family has been developing techniques which make for an outstanding range of specialty coffees. Located close to the city of Patrocínio 950 meters above sea level, Bom Jardim Estate comprises a total of 360 hectares, where there is a large lake and an assortment of wild animals such as monkeys and siriemas. The farm is very well organised with a production line that co-exists harmonically with the environment through the employment of technologies that minimize impact and allows for the conservation of biodiversity. The estate believes in good social practices for its work force, something the family have always put in place.

Our specialty (single) coffees are roasted from the highest-quality green coffee beans to their greatest flavor potential. All our specialty coffees are free of defects and have a distinctive character in the cup, with a score of 80 or above when graded according to SCAA Standards.

Once the beans are processed and delivered, our master roaster at 36P spends a considerable amount of time to understand the coffee and develop unique roast profiles.

After trying different profiles and cupping we decide on one profile that brings out the best out of that particular bean.

We roast all our specialty coffees in small batches to maintain freshness and monitor quality.

We develop our espresso roast coffee further in the roaster to increase the caramelisation and body, which suits being prepared on an espresso machine to extract delicious elixir.

Our filter roasted coffee has been less developed in order to retain more of the sparkling acidity that a filtered cup of brew desires.

But the devastation witnessed in the state of New South Wales is nearly unfathomable - 3.6 million hectares (8.8 million acres) have been lost, over 1,500 homes destroyed or damaged, and 24 people have been killed. New South Wales is home to some of the most iconic of Australia's wildlife - koalas, wombats, and kangaroos to name a few - and their habitat is rapidly declining.

Trees have been chosen that will bring the greatest overall benefit to the region. This includes various types of native trees and companion plants, depending on the specific needs of each section of habitat being restored across Australia.
